MUPIROCIN OINTMENT 2%  (30G)

Generic Name: mupirocin
Drug class: Topical antibiotics

WHAT IS THE DOSAGE OF THIS MEDICATION?

Mupirocin is available in the strength of 2% in ointment form only.

WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION USED FOR?

Mupirocin belongs to the class of medications called topical antibiotics. It is applied topically (to the skin) to treat skin infections such as impetigo, caused by certain bacteria. It may also be used to prevent infections from developing in scrapes and minor cuts and injuries. It works by killing the bacteria that cause the skin infection.

Apply a small amount of the ointment or cream to the affected area 3 times daily for up to 10 days, depending on the response. You can cover the area treated with a gauze dressing. If your condition worsens or irritation occurs, call your doctor. If this medication is used on the face, take care to avoid the eyes.

Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are using the medication without consulting your doctor.

It is important to use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Store this medication at room temperature, protect it from light and moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children. Do not dispose of medications in wastewater (e.g. down the sink or in the toilet) or in household garbage. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medications that are no longer needed or have expired.
